ABOUT NORTHERN MAINE BOOKS

Northern Maine Books is an independent book company begun in 2009 by author Cathie Pelletier. This small "hobby" press will produce books that have as their subject matter the St. John Valley, its towns and people, as well as Aroostook County. The books will be mostly conceived by Cathie and she will work closely as editor with the authors who are the best choices to represent those books.

The first production of Northern Maine Books was Christmas in Allagash: The Early Years, which was done entirely for the Allagash Historical Society to help them generate funds for preserving the town's history. Working closely with Pelletier on that book was Allen Jackson, also of Allagash, and now living in Fort Kent after serving in the military and residing in Connecticut for many years. Jackson will work with NMB on future projects.

The CS5 Indesign file for the book was done by Carl Hileman. Hileman is a painter, photographer and songwriter from Southern Illinois who has collaborated with Pelletier on several books. Carl's own book is Cows: A Rumination, published by Ennis Books and available on Amazon.com. Hileman will continue to work with NMB.

Written with her father, Louis Pelletier Sr., A Is For Allagash: A Lumberjack's Life is the second book produced by Northern Maine Books. For more information on that release, click on the cover image on this site.

The colophon for Northern Maine Books uses artwork done by Cathie’s mother, Ethel O’Leary Pelletier (1918-2000) as part of her assignments as a student at St. Francis High School. Ethel graduated in 1935, so the fern artwork was most likely drawn in 1934.
